About

My main thing: Doing The Lord's Work: Nurturing and Loving my Family. All other facets of my life must be appendages to this. If it's not, see ya!

So I have been thinking about simplicity.  Some look at old-fashioned cultures where everything is done by hand and call it simplicity. I’ve tried making homemade bread and home knitted hats, homemade cleaners and home sewn quilts. While I have had a lot of fun, and have been somewhat successful with this, I fail to see what is so simple about it.  If you decide to leave aside modern technologies and sew your own clothes and milk your own Jersey Cow, you are simply trading one complex life for another.

No, simplicity is the act of deciding what is truly important to you and making that your “main thing” or your center. And in order to make it your center, you politely but firmly and confidently say, “No” to things that get in the way.

This blog will attempt to help me find my center and take my focus off things that do not matter or that are toxic to my happiness.  If you follow along, I would love your kind input, suggestions or validation.  Maybe you can also find something here to help you with your main thing.

The way I see it: these are the Steps to Simplicity:

1. Assess your life: Understand your values and personal interests; Take note of your resources; Define your necessities; find things in your life that are worthy and un-worthy of your time and resources.

2. Eliminate un-worthy things in your life. You cannot eliminate necessities.

3. Define Drudgery: Necessary work that does not bring joy or satisfaction.

4. Devise a system to manage each of the worthy aspects of your life

5. Use your money to manage your drudgery

6. Avoid new commitments if they draw you away from your “main thing”.
I will share thoughts about all of these steps as I attempt to address them in my life.  I will also share ideas for systems I devise to manage my worthy activities.
